Ugh! I feel nasty. I feel like I have 100 lbs of Christmas cookie pounds on me right now. Things don't fit as nice as they did a few months ago. I spoke to Jonny J about it and he said "want to go on my diet?" His diet is what we call the "starvation diet" 500 calories per day. No sugar, no carbs. Protein and vegetables only.
The idea is to go on it for 8-10 days resetting your body but no more then 12 because it will start working against you. We tend to eat too much normally this diet helps reset your needs which if I think about it will be close to what I was consuming right before the Ironman. I found this true last summer when I was out riding my bike for 70-100 miles with a 4 mile run to follow. Like clockwork I would always bonk at mile 80 but when I changed my eating habits on and off the bike I didn't need to eat as much as I thought I needed to eat. I just needed to make sure I was taking in fluids and a little bit of sugar for my mind. What this diet does is trains our body to go after the stored fat. Stored fat is access carbs our body could go for days on our stored fat if needed but without fluid we wouldn't last too many days.
I talked to a few people that have done his diet and they've all said the samething. It's hard at first but after 2 days you start to feel good. Although your decreasing your calorie intake your have to keep your workout schedule the same. I think that I need this diet more then I want to admit. I'll give it a try but I'll start it on Thursday so by the time the really bad days hit it will be the weekend. Until then I'll be cleaning out my house of food and mentally be preparing myself for the 8-10 days to come and what I can eat to stay within the 500 calories.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
My new years resolution is....
....wait...I don't make new years resolutions. Why do you need January 1st to commit to improving your life? Why not December 27th or whenever you think of something. Every year it's the same - the gym is packed then 6 weeks later it back to normal. Frustrating.
There are those few that can make it which is why I have to commend my cousin Carrie. She started running last New Years. I saw her post on Facebook and hoped she'd keep it up so I reached out to her and suggested she make a goal and find a group of women in her area to run with which is exactly what she did. A few months later she did a 5k and was ecstatic. I congratulated her and suggested to start making bigger goals. 10k, half marathon then a full marathon. Here reaction was "yeah right. That will never happen." Fast-foward to December 31 and she did a 10k, half marathon and logged 500 total miles in 2011. Now that's a New Years Resolution.
